Indonesian Government to Attract Cruise Ship Passengers

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, in conjunction with various tourist-sector stakeholders, has intensified its promotional activities in order to attract a greater number of international cruise-ship passengers to Indonesia. Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, Mari Elka Pangestu explained that, “In addition to this intensification through participation in cruise promotion events, we are also strengthening our coordination networks, especially the preparation of our harbours and destinations.” The minister recently led an Indonesian delegation to the Cruise Shipping Miami exhibition that ran from March 12-15 in Miami. In 2009, 68,598 tourists cruised the country, rising to 94,166 in 2010 and 112,882 last year. This year, the government predicts that this total will rise again to 118,823 cruise passengers.
